A Note from the President

Capt. Bob Humphrey

President, Board of Directors

Founding captain of the Casco Bay Bluefin Bonanza and the voice behind eight years of tournament fundraising for Maine students and marine science.

The Casco Bay Bluefin Bonanza is an independent, non-profit, 501(c)(3) foundation dedicated to building a better community, and we do so in several ways.

Since our inception in 2019, we have awarded scholarships to over 90 students enrolled in the trades and marine sciences programs throughout the state of Maine. This provides an opportunity for them to earn a better living and adds more qualified candidates to our local work force, something we desperately need.

With your partnership, we are supporting a stronger, healthier future for our community. Please consider supporting our efforts through the Eighth Annual Casco Bay Bluefin Bonanza tuna tournament, which includes a 4-day tuna tournament, a day full of fishing-related activities for kids, and a dinner/auction.

We offer various sponsorship levels and are always willing to work with you on creative opportunities.

Where Your Sponsorship Goes

Four Programs, One Mission.

Tournament proceeds fund three tightly focused programs, each solving a real problem for Maine and for the fishery.

Emergency Medical Services & Paramedicine

Scholarships for EMS and Paramedicine students at Southern Maine Community College. These graduates ensure rural communities in Maine have better access to medical first responders.

UMaine Pelagic Fisheries Lab Internships

Internships at the University of Maine’s Pelagic Fisheries Lab give future researchers real-world, practical experience and direct interaction with the fishermen whose resource they may one day be stewards of.

Cutting-Edge Fisheries Research

Tournament data feeds a stronger, more comprehensive understanding of western Atlantic bluefin tuna stocks. That data has been instrumental in developing regulations, including a 17% quota increase for the fishery.

Maine Community College Trade School Scholarships

In just 7 years we have provided over $175,000 to students and an endowment with the Foundation for Maine’s Community Colleges. In turn, they’re providing more qualified workers to local businesses in our community.

Recognized For Impact

SMCC Foundation 2026 Outstanding Business Award
